On November 25th, Louise will turn 4 years old! We want to get her something special and life changing for her birthday but we need your help.
Louise was born deaf but a little over a year ago, she got a cochlear implant on her right ear. Her results have been great and she is now understanding common words and phrases, saying many words, knows her entire alphabet, can count to 10, and is learning her colors. She attends a mainstream preschool and is thriving there.
Louise is smart. She is funny, spunky, silly, mischievous, and full of life. She is also a leader. The other kids follow her and do whatever she does. She has such a bright future ahead of her and I know she will go on to do amazing things.
For a while now we have been looking into and praying about getting Louise a second implant on her left ear to improve her hearing and make things easier for her in the future.
All of our research seems to agree that we should do it now. The closer you get the second implant to the time of the first one, the easier it is for the child to adjust and learn to use it properly. Also, the older the child gets, the less likely it is to be successful.
In short, the longer we wait, the harder it will be for Louise.
With all of that in mind, we have decided to move forward with providing this for Louise.
Here's the catch:
While a local company sponsored the entire cost of Louise's first implant, they don't give any aid for an additional one so to cover the cost of the implant, processor, and surgery, we need to pay about $16,000.
I know that is a lot of money and it wasn't an easy decision to make.
Our goal as a foster home though has always been to give our kids the very best and so when decisions like this come up we ask ourselves one question: If I were living in the States what would I do for my child in the same situation?
Once we asked that question about Louise, the decision was easy - we do it. We find a way and we make it happen. I don't think any parent would do any less for their child.
So rather than asking myself how many other things we could do with that money, I've started asking myself if Louise is worth it. And that answer is easy.
YES.
100%
So we're going to do it. We're going to raise $16,000 to give Louise the best birthday gift we can give her. And I know that God will provide because Louise is His daughter.
And I know that as we are faithful to do what He's asking in this, He will provide for all our other needs as well.
We can't do this alone, though. We need help and a lot of it. So how about you?
Will you come alongside us and help us show Louise that she is worth it? That she is loved and cared about. That she is not forgotten or overlooked - even by those a world away.
We have raised almost $2,000 so far which is amazing! We still have a ways to go though. To make a donation, visit Louise's fundraising page here: schindia.com/louisescochlearimplant/
We are also selling these great t-shirts in adult and children's sizes for $25 (that includes shipping)! To purchase yours, just fill out an order form here. And just a friendly tip - these would make great Christmas gifts!
We've got just over a month to make this happen and I believe that we can. Every little bit helps and even if you can't make a donation at this time, please be praying and help us spread the word about Louise!
Thank you for your support and for displaying Christ's love to one very special girl!
